Day 21 Acebo to Ponferrada
Day 21!
A week from now i will be getting ready for my last 20 km to reach Santiago :-) Today as planned I woke up at 8. I wasnt planning to have any breakfast but i asked for a coffe and orange juice and they convinced me to have some toast ( as it was pretty much the same price :-)) and it also came with a muffin. it was a beautiful morning and since there was noone else in the albergue i really enjoyed watching the moutains in silence. its amazing how far a smile and thank you can take you with Spanish people. I do find them often very closed almost ignorant about foreign people but when this happens i just start to smile and smile and thank them for everything. this is how i ended up having unlimited orange juice and amazing latte this morning but it also worked on getting nicer beds or single rooms :-) so keep smiling :-) this is my daily free advise - you're welcome! :-D
i thought 16 km today easy peasy. nop. first 8 km almost took me 2.5 hrs (an hour longer than usual) coming down was really hard because of the surface, huge stones everywhere. i wasnt planning to stop but the next village was just way too cute not to stop for a coffee :-) Around 1.30 i arrived to Ponferrada. Rest of the day i just walked around, slept and enjoyed the sun and meeting new people. This German girl told me that this is her second camino. on the first one she became friends with this French girl who broke her leg outside Leon. I asked her what happend. Turns out she has osteoporosis and her brones just broke as they couldn't take that much stress. so they are back now. Walking from Leon. It was inspiring to listen to this story again and i just wished them good luck i hope they can arrive to Santiago this time together.
Tomorrow 32 km ahead of me. Gonna be a long day with possibly early start. we shall see :-) Have a great long weekend everybody!
Love,
Viki
